2020 Sophie Cabernet Franc
The Gamling and her 145 pound Dire Wolf, Kingston (he’s actually 1/2 Malamute and 1/2 Bernese Mountain Dog for those keeping score) moved up to Rogue Valley in 2018 for a viticulture job.
Having her up there, doing her vineyard thing- It would be silly not to be making some Oregon Wine. This is our first Cabernet Franc from the region and it's smashing. In our first year working with it, Sundown showed off balanced fruit and electricacidity. Stylistically the resulting wine has a foot in Bourgeuil (Loire, France) and the other foot trapped in a log in a rushing stream in the hills of Ashland, Oregon. It's a vase made by a carpenter- There's a prettiness there, but it's easier to see if you know something about carpentry or have watched at least the first two seasons of Northern Exposure.
Full of dark spice and rich fruit, it's the wine in our line-up best paired (classic pairing I'll add) with gamebirds or boar, or some wild thing- maybe the same wild thing watching you fumble around a stream with your foot trapped in a log.
