Have we rambled on about our aesthetic yet? Usually this is the wine where it happens so get ready to mark that square on your bingo card.
The thing is we usually make single vineyard, single varietal wines, but this is our one and only blend. Aesthetically we're into wines of a time and place, and when you start blending, that all gets lost. Suddenly the wine is just somebody’s opinion- it’s just the recipe to make the thing somebody thinks somebody else wants. Which is a skill for sure, but at the end of the day we find expressing vineyards more interesting than expressing opinions, (yeah right) and it connects us to the soul of winemaking in a way that commerce and analysis cannot.
All that said, making a blend is pure fun, and if you have 75 barrels of red wine to pull from, it's a lovely drunken challenge. This is the 6th time we've done it. There are 5 different Cab Francs in Entanglement #6. Different vintages, different vineyards, and different oak programs.
We made exactly 110 cases, go ahead and ask why, but buckle up...
